Creating Joy: A Resistance
The Groove Art Space, Downtown Albuquerque
April 4, 2025 - April 27, 2025

In April 2025, the artist Patricia Stellamares presented her second public art showing in a vibrant community space filled with live music, local vendors, and poetry readings from published writers. This exhibit marked a meaningful milestone in her creative journey as she introduced a new piece to the public at the Groove Space in Albuquerque. It also marked her first mini archival print sales.

In the main gallery, was Mi Amiga, Mi Amor, a mixed-media painting made with acrylic and rose petals. The artist spent months on this work wanting to capture the unique qualities found only women's friendships. The piece celebrates the sacred joy of sisterhood—the unspoken language, the location tracking, and the protective love shared between us.

What came forward through her intuitive process was, this purple, blue, and pink, reimagined evil eye. It invites viewers to underestimate it with the girlish colors because #IYKYK. Our sisters are always watching out for one another in the chaos, deception, and violence in our present world. This work honors the healing power of friendship that has supported the artist through trying and turbulent times.
