The Land Bears Witness

     The Land Bears Witness is a series of one-of-a-kind abstract paintings inspired by the artist's lifelong love of maps and aerial perspectives. As someone who will always trade for a window seat, Patricia has spent years closely observing the earth from above. She finds great meaning, memory, and connection to her ancestors through the earth whether on land, in water, or from above.

     Created through a technique she calls call drip pour mapping, each piece transforms topographical maps into fluid, intuitive compositions. The artist layers and pours paint in a process that mirrors the organic flow of rivers, valleys, and ridgelines. She surrenders to gravity once she walks away from each wet canvas to allow color and form to blend naturally like the ways natural forces shape the earth in every moment.

     These original artworks speak to the soul of a location—whether it’s a sacred travel destination, a homeland, or an imagined terrain of healing and memory. Each map is open to interpretation, inviting viewers to connect with their own internal geographies. No two paintings are ever the same, making each piece as unique as the journey it reflects.
